Hiking

Skiathos is a unique experience for nature lovers hikers and is remarkably easy for anyone to follow a hiking trail with instructive signs, the purity of the opening trails and the helpful interventions harmoniously with the environment.

The traveler meets everywhere the typical flora of Pilio, which is the endless variety of Mediterranean vegetation, with exquisite flavors from alifaskies, oregano, wild mint and thyme. Arbutus and boxwood and holly, laurel and myrtle, carob and olive trees, koutsoupies, chestnut and wild nuts, heather and brushwood welcome and greet passers-by…Shady and cool forests of pine, pine trees or planes adorn with pride all the island and form a protective shield from the calcined sun rays in summer and beside the stream flowing lazily.

The human presence is strong throughout the island with many chapels 'studded' everywhere, old mills, water mills and sources with fresh cool water to quench the thirst of the traveler, as so eloquently stated in his short stories, Alexander Papadiamantis which is like the art haunted all these beautiful mountain paths.

Aid for each traveler is the Traveling Guide for Skiathos and have been issued until today the follows:
• «SKIATHOS THE SHADED ISLE» (the blue book) of Jack Causton in English
• «WALKS OF SKIATHOS ISLAND» Vassilis Coralis (2007) in English
• «SKIATHOS Walking in Aegean paradise» by Ortwin Widmann (2010) in Greek, English and German language
