“SKIATHOS The shaded isle” edited by Juck Causton.

First published in 1972 by Cartbridge Press, second edition in 1974 and third edition in 1979 that was made and printed in England by Unwin Brothers Ltd.

Juck Causton is closing the book’s Introduction with the following:

“Some of the treasures will, I hope, be disclosed to you by the articles in this book.

I have included an extract from the writings of someone who knew and loved the island many years ago : Alexander Papadiamantis, one of Greece’s most famous short-story writers, who was born on Skiathos and buried there when he died in 1911.

The other contributors are all people who have known Skiathos intimately in recent years and learnt to love it. I am grateful to them for their articles, advice and encouragement and also to my wife Nancy for her assistance and support throughout and to Richard and Elizabeth Romyn for their invaluable technical help.”

Except J. Causton, articles have been written by Betsy Bernard, Pru Chandler (former English journalist), Dennis Henshaw (formerly journalist and writer), Dirk de Villiers (writer), Richard Buchanan-Dunlop (artist), Elizabeth Romyn, Chris and Jacky Huxley, Evelyn Irons (English journalist), Beverley Cross.

“Front cover design: sketch of a Byzantine plaque which is set into the wall of an old building in one of the town squares: by Nancy Causton, who spends several months each year on Skiathos and is well known for her illustrated maps and wild flowers paintings in gouache.
Other illustrations and maps by Nancy Causton and Wendy Beckwith (experienced artist).”

“SKIATHOS The shaded isle” has run out and unfortunately will no longer be available.
