Dimitris Letsios is one of the most important Greek photographers of the 20th century who recorded through his lens the landscape, folk culture and the common man of Skiathos. His file begins from the interwar period and extends throughout the postwar period, is a valuable artistic, social and folkloric legacy for our country.

Dimitris Letsios born in 1910 in Anakasia of Volos. His father had a bakery in 1909 in Volos, which offered in the family their relative economic comfort which enabled the education and studies. D. Letsios refusing to continue his studies early enough and decided to take the bakery where he worked until 1984.

Counterweight in the long and tedious work of the bakery was his love and escape in the countryside or on Sunday courses or on organized trips. Always found enough time to "spinning" as saying "in Volos and Piliochoria. As a man who walked, the distance Volos - Makrinitsa was for me a piece of cake every Sunday. So I learned photography. Searching. Spoiling film and papers, trying to improve my yesterday work. Since then everything to me have a photograph interest.

He began to photographing in 1934 and gradually began to have more free time for tours and photography. During the big earthquake in Volos in 1954 all the first negative who had grabbed at the time destroyed. In 1955, is the year of a new start and is the period that begins to wandering all over Greece. He was a cofounder of EFE (1952) while founded the EFE Volos (1956).

The literature was an important influence in his work as read fanatically documents and poetry. The theoretical aspects of photography from which does not make a living, does not mind him. D. Letsios was spontaneous in the selection of subjects and in their aesthetic approach. He loved people and his place and had a personal experience with everything he photographs. A brief summary that makes D. Letsios about how photographs help the reader to approach the way which treats his subjects: "On the same day four different photographic times. Never run out an issue. Otherwise it was yesterday morning, otherwise it was yesterday, otherwise it is today"

Dimitris Letsios "left" on 16/01/2008 at age 98. In June 2006 he had made donation of the entire photographic archive to the Museum of Photography in Thessaloniki.
